Unarguably the most anticipated show of the season, the entire fashion world has been sitting on the edge of their seats, literally, since John Galliano was bethroned from Dior back last January.

The rumor mill spun like crazy- gasp- who would follow in Gallianos footsteps and save the legacy of Dior?!

After Bill Gayten's brief stint as creative director for the fashion house, Raf Simons was finally named the new successor for the house of Dior. For some, it was a sigh of relief. For others, it raised eyebrows. Just recently Raf was dethrowned from his long-time design job at Jil Sander. You know what they say... when one door closes, another one opens. In this case, from one door... a haute couture door.

With so much anticipation, Raf Simons most certainly had some big shoes to fill- and the fact that Haute Couture was his first debut only added to the immense pressure.

Simons has proven his ability to truly devote himself to a fashion house. He delved deep into the history of Dior, with access to infinite archives and was determined to keep the DNA of Christian Dior, re-inventing the New Look, which was the revolutionary turning point of the 20th century that set the foundation for the entire fashion industry. Raf stated he wants to "change the way people look at couture", and by the looks of it, he may be on to something.

I personally find this collection to be absoloutely exquisite- there is an undeniable essence of Dior's signature aesthetic, but with a subtle futuristic twist. For example, Simons paired peplum cinched cocktail dresses over sleek cigarette pants- the perfect juxtaposition. It was as if the poster woman for Miss Dior literally stepped into a time machine and appeared before our very eyes. Raf confected a perfect fusion of the past and the future, and with his ungodly ability to create a beautiful collection that stayed true to Dior, with just the perfect pinch of Raf's unmistakable minimalistic-chic aesthetic that gained him major kudos in the fashion industry during his years at Jil Sander.

Simons stayed true to the DNA of Dior. Only the fourth to take on the role of head designer at one of the most coveted brands in fashion history, The crowning of Raf Simons is, well, quite a historic moment in history (at least in my world... our world) and I could not be more excited to see what he unleashes with his next collection.

Candy Kane

London based designer Christopher Kane has recently begun to create quite a buzz in the world of fashion. Although he's only been in the industry for six  short years (a designer rookie compared to other major fashion houses), he has proven his incredible talent with a unique design aesthetic that has captured the hearts of fashionistas, editors, and celebs alike.

Miss Donatella Versace even crowned Kane as the head designer of Versace's little sister line, Versus, and has been quite pleased with his ability to unveil collections that are undeniably chic, while still maintaining the classic Versace signature look.

With his most recent Resort collection, Mr. Kane has done it once again- presenting a refreshing look that is sure to dictate the major trends come next Spring. One things for sure- Christopher Kane is always ahead of the game, and will only continue to evolve and unleash revolutionary designs that push the boundaries of modern fashion and maybe, just maybe, eventually become a household name.

His resort look's were edgy but feminine, with abstract modern prints. Pretty pleated dresses with cinched waists, topped with bad-ass leather bombers were truly a go-to uniform for the effortlessly cool girl, the kind you see sauntering down the streets of Manhatten. And the most refreshing aspect of the collection was that instead of intimidatingly high shoes that typically rule the runways, Christopher Kane paired his latest looks with casual cool flat, jelly strappy sandals. True eye candy.

Derek Lam Resort 2013- City Safari

Having just recently begun my summer internship at Derek Lam (I'm still pinching myself) I've been doing computer work non-stop for the Resort collection, reading every description of each piece and seeing flat, rough-draft sketches. To finally see the clothing in person- both on the model and in my very own hands- has been quite the treat. The blurry image in my head of what I've pictured Derek Lam's Resort 2013 collection to look like has finally come to life, and I'm liking what I see.

The girl of Derek's collection was an impeccably chic urban girl, head-to-toe in the seasons freshest look: Safari Chic.

Derek Lam took us on his very own private safari and presented a sleu of effortlessly chic pieces that were eye-catching, playful, wearable, and... well, just plain sexy.

Bold leopard and giraffe prints were a sprinkle of whimsy, but sleek structured cuts kept one foot-(ahem-platform) on the ground with Derek Lam's signature city chic aesthetic. A little bit of fun with proportions also came into play, with breezy, asymmetrical pieces combined with boxy, crisp tailoring.
Graphic ikat prints appeared on beachy dresses and loose-fitting blouses, while the giraffe and leopard patterns covered sexy shift dresses and smart pencil skirts. If the photos don't do them justice, let me tell you darlings, the collection is to die for... That bright orange-red hue is called "Adobe" and a little birdy told me that will be the hot colour for next Spring. Army green too. Come the beginning of Spring NEXT year, the coolest chick in the city already has her wardrobe lined up. She's always one step ahead of the game, but you can't really hate her for that, can you? ;)

My Story

I've come to realize I haven't really been too good at keeping up with this blog consistently. With my freshman year of college as a fashion journalism major, I had a turbulent yet exhilarating first year in which I learned numerous new things about myself, other people, who I want to be, and where I want to go.
Fashion is the one thing that keeps me going. It gives me a feeling inside that ignites an anxious excitement filled with inspiration, creativity and determination to fulfill my dream of working for a fashion magazine. After years of collecting hundreds of fashion magazines
 My interest in fashion struck at an early age. The beginning of my eighth grade year was when it struck.
I began  going to Barnes & Noble on a regular basis, devouring each monthly issue tucked into a corner in that little Starbucks nook. I took a fashion illustration art class, which led to constant doodles in my school notebooks. I started changing my style and following all of the runway collections online, learning the names of designers and knowing the trends for every season. It fascinated me.
Freshman year in high school rolled around, and I took it to the next level. I got a new haircut- inspired sleek straight bangs, that soon became a growing trend amongst girls at my school- which I eventually decided to get rid of in lieu of a side-swept look. I wore stylish outfits to school and ultimately became noticed and known as that little fashionable freshman girl. I'm pretty sure I even wore wedges once or twice. In a sea of skinny jeans and Juicy hoodies, emulating the trends I found in magazines.
My sophomore and junior year I favored an edgier look. Lace tights, combat boots and leather jackets were my uniform. Not to sound like a snob, but I wore them before they were "trendy". I got used to the stares I recieved as I walked through the hallways of my highschool, and isntead of being self conscious and insecure, I embraced the unspoken attention that my style caused. Eventually the trends caught on. But by the time combat boots were the norm, I was on to the next.
Years have gone by and my love for fashion has forever  continued to grow. I am now about to be a sophomore in college come fall, majoring in fashion communications, as it is my dream to one day be the one behind it all. I've had this blog for awhile, but have failed to consistently update it. So from now on, I've decided to do so. I will document my latest obsessions, cravings, opinions, and random ramblings.
